Opera, sung in the audience's language.

An independent company from Morelia, Michoacán — and a national pioneer in translating and performing the operatic repertoire in Spanish.

Ópera de Morelia on stage

Founded in 2016 by bass-baritone Omar Nieto, Ópera de Morelia is an independent opera company based in Morelia, Michoacán — a UNESCO World Heritage city and a UNESCO City of Music.

One identity decision defines the company: translating the repertoire into Spanish and building both the chorus and the soloists from the city itself. In ten years it has staged 12 productions — operas, a zarzuela, a world-premiere oratorio and concerts — in collaboration with UMSNH, the Conservatorio de las Rosas and the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia.

Its school and open-enrolment Choir Workshop feed every season. In 2026 two of its own students made their professional debuts as soloists.

A full English edition is in preparation. The complete content — productions, school, press materials and support information — is currently available in Spanish.
